After about 60 flights the battery only holds out for 6 1/2 minutes but that's OK since I only fly for 5 minutes at a time. Picture quality is good and so is the sound. I was getting a lot of vibration which blurred the video so I switched from an 8 X 4 to a 9 X 5 prop and the vibrations almost quit completely while powering to climb. Once at altitude and throttled back to half power the vibrations quit. I mounted it on the front of my Honey Bee FP helicopter by leaving the canopy off and putting velcro on the front of the battery and got some interesting videos with it. I needed to see the top of my house and barn and the HBFP worked out OK. Next project... mount it to my micro Heli Max mQX quad copter and see how that works out." They record very well, generally - at this price you could find a lemon periodically, so charge up and test it as soon as you get it, but they really are a good value. This layout requires it to stand up as shown, which works perfectly for cutting a hole in the canopy base, turning it on and pushing it up through the hole to capture onboard images !! Video is good for money and works best on sunny days. On overcast it changes the gain/shutter too much and can be distracting going from bright to dark over and over. But this is not a high end camera and the price also reflects this. If you want something better you are going to have to spend a lot more money and it will probably be a lot bigger. I would recommend checking the screws as they come loose easily from vibration. I have crashed several times with it and it has been launched clear across the ground on impact. Still works fine! All and all its an excellent value for the money it provides a good enough video quality to be enjoyable." "5" "Alan" "April 7, 2011" "I charged this camera off of my laptop computer for several hours and then attached it to my HobbyZone Super Cub. I was able to take an 8 minute video on the initial charge. The video quality was very acceptable for a $25 camera. However, I tried unsuccessfully for three more times to attach the camera to another RC airplane that I have; each timer that I brought the plane down after about 5 minutes of flight time, the battery was completly dead. I finally figured out throught trial and error that the camera takes forever to charge using the USB connection to the laptop. I connected the camera to my cell phone charger and within 1 hour the battery was fully charged and the camera would video tape for 30 minutes to one hour on a single charge. Make sure that you have the camera fully charged before you try to use it for more than a few minutes. I could leave the camera plugged into the laptop USB connection over night and it would still not indicate that the batter was charged. Other than the problems with charging the battery, I would have to say that this is a great little camera for the money." The overall quality was ok. Bad: The camera itself was poorly supported with almost no documentation. The buttons were hard to use and the battery/camera died after a week of use, never to work again. Also, the video only recorded at about 20fps instead of the rated 30 and the audio/video weren't perfectly in sync. After much looking I found multiple versions of this unbranded camera around, all with slightly different specificiations. I read recently about a new HD version coming out in Japan with a similar look but much better camera/specifications. Sadly, no real price or date since the 1 article. Since my helicopter crashed (without camera) and isn't working right now, I'll hold off on buying a replacement and hope for the new model camera." Well, none of that actually mattered to me, I was originally attracted to this camera's dimensions and low weight. As long as it recorded video that was decent enough to tell the difference between a car and a person...I would have been happy. That was not at all what I got out of this camera though! The first video I had captured was aimed at my face, from about 8 inches away, and I had my entire back yard behind me. Well, I suck at aiming so the camera was actually pointed all the way across the back yard to near where our small chihuahuas were playing, maybe 45 ft behind me. Well, that short 15 second video was more than enough to distinctly show off each of their tiny collars and facial expressions....and considering that the largest of the 3 dogs is only 6.75 lbs and the smallest being 2.5...yeah...they are small dogs with some really small collars! Another pro...or "plus": The specific variation/model I received did not match either the site's exact product description...or the instruction manual it came with. Why? Because, in addition to being able to record video and take still photos, it also has a separate function to record voice memos/sound only. The function to record memos, in the instruction manual that came with it...is what was supposed to be the still photo function. (which in my case shares functions with the video recording. video starts with a 2-sec button press and ends with either double press of that button -or- another 2 sec button press....and the still shots are taken in the same mode with simply a quick single click of the same...button. There are 2 cons however: On some of the different variations of this camera, I have read that is is possible to set the date and time in the camera so that it will display this info IN the recordings themselves, a date/time stamp. Well, following the directions that were from a different camera, I was able to set the date and time, but I have so far been unable to get a date/time stamp to appear in the videos or photos. **(By the way, when in Windows Explorer (Vista), the "file creation" dates and times for all recordings and their containing folders....were all "static" at first, saying something like April 14, 2007, 5:07:00PM. This was atleast until I was able to set the date and time for the camera. Afterwards, everything indicated the actual creation/modification date's and times as all normal files and folders should. The second con: The frame rate is not a set 30fps. I have been able to get....30fps, but not constantly. The indirectly brighter scenes with less "rapid" movement resulted in higher rates. If centered/focused on objects relatively close to me (-10 ft or closer)...i got lower rates when moving, whereas farther objects as the center of attention would result in higher rates. To make a long story short: For flying...this should be pretty good while flying 20 ft up or higher...taking off, landing, and low altitude flybys might suffer a bit though as far as frame rate. Sound is not the best in any mode, mine was rather fuzzy but is expected considering the quality/compression of the audio is programmed to be so low/poor. Enjoy, don't over charge it (not sure how long that'd take)...and make sure you buy a "class 6" or higher micro SD card for it. Anything much less than a "class 6" and your frame rate will drop significantly!!! **The higher the "class" the faster data can be written to it, which in turn allows the camera to record faster! Class...not SIZE..class. This is commonly determined by either some print on the card's packaging....or is ON the chip itself, barely visible as just a NUMBER inside of a letter 'C'. Have fun!"
